When the Half Blood Prince ended Albus Dumbledore’s life, the plan was that he was to step into the role of Headmaster, to keep the students of Hogwarts safe. Professor Snape, after all, had proven himself more worthy of Albus’ trust than anyone but the elderly headmaster himself had recognized.
But under no circumstances would Minerva McGonagall allow Dumbledore’s murderer to be his successor. And while she was not able to prove the Severus had killed Albus, she made a convincing enough case that, against the wishes of the late Professor Dumbledore, the Wizengamot named Professor McGonagall Headmistress of Hogwarts. Professor Snape had to settle for the post of Deputy Headmaster.
In his time, Professor Albus Dumbledore had confided all the knowledge of the horcruxes and the fate of Harry Potter with Severus Snape, who knew that the trio should not be forced to come to school that year. But as Headmistress, McGonagall had other plans. She refused to listen to Snape’s warnings or even hear him out, forcing Harry, Ron, and Hermione to attend Hogwarts for their seventh and final year.
What were the three young wizards to do? They had no choice but to board the Hogwarts Express (though that may have had as much to do with Molly Weasley as it did Minerva McGonagall). But the three will spend the rest of their school year trying to escape; to destroy the horcruxes and fulfill the prophecy, before Voldemort attacks Hogwarts. But their attempts at escape may result in one of them losing their life.
But it seems that the trio were not the only unexpected returnees at Hogwarts that year. After nearly killing Professor Dumbledore, though ultimately not having it in him, Draco Malfoy, too, has returned to Hogwarts to seek refugee. Now trying to convince everyone that he has seen the light and converted to the Order’s side, Draco has been trying to get Harry to give him the time of day, to warn him of just how powerful Voldemort had become, and to try and help him overcome the Dark Lord.
But Harry, too preoccupied with his plans of escape, disregards Draco entirely. Mr. Malfoy tries to get Hermione and Ron to listen to him, but none of the trio believe that he is actually now on their side; especially not after he was supposed to kill Dumbledore.
Ginny has been growing rather annoyed of Harry’s inability to calm down, or do anything but try to escape the grounds of Hogwarts. For her own safety, Harry tries to keep at a distance from her, continually pushing her farther and farther away, only raising her annoyance.
That summer, Viktor Krum had invited Hermione to stay with him, an offer she gladly accepted. Ron grew frustrated, wondering how on earth she could leave in such a dangerous time. Harry stayed at the Burrow, and the three convened a week before school started in Diagon Alley – Hermione brought Viktor. This year, Mr. Krum is coming to Hogwarts as the new flying instructor, and Ron has collected a pile of Viktor Krum action figures, all mysteriously missing body parts.
But having started to realize her feelings for Ron, Hermione is torn between him and Viktor. In the week before school started, Hermione came close to admiting her feelings to Ron. But he was still angry over what happened with Viktor, and his attitude towards her immediatly put her off the idea. The two engaged in a massive blow-out, and are on and off speaking terms.
Meanwhile, there has been a mass break-out at Azkaban. All of the Death Eaters held within its stone walls have escaped, and the Dementors, not yet under Voldemort’s control, are in a frenzy. No where is off limits, and they have even started paying visits to Hogwarts in their search.
But the whole world has not gone to hell. Fleur and Bill have announced their engagement, though that may not be viewed as a positive by Molly and Ginny Weasley. Tonks has announced her pregnancy, though Remus Lupin isn’t taking it as well as may be expected. Life goes on.
Now, after a rocky week in Diagon Alley, all the Hogwarts students are boarding the Hogwarts Express, after receiving letters that stated that they must attend school this year, for their own safety.
Welcome to Perfect Enemies, an alternate universe, present-era Harry Potter roleplay, taking place in the trio's seventh year. What'll happen?
Perfect Enemies ♥
[in short]
What if Minerva McGonagall had ascended into the role of Headmistress after the death of Albus Dumbledore?
What if the school had never been overtaken by Death Eaters and the Ministry?
What if the trio had been forced to return to Hogwarts for their final year of schooling?
What if Draco had learned the error of his ways and taken refugee at Hogwarts?
What if Viktor and Hermione grew closer together, while Harry and Ginny drifted further apart?
That's up to you.
