Dane sat on the edge of the lake, watching the sun's refection dance on the water. It was nice, just sitting on the shore. As it was autumn, the weather wasn't hot enough to fry him and wasn't cold enough to turn him into a popsickle. In fact, although it was against the teacher's dress code, he was wearing muggle clothes. Sure, if Narcissa, Severus, or Bellatrix caught him, he'd be dead, but Garrett had assured him that they couldn't go out in the sun, as they'd shrivel and die. He didn't believe that, of course, but it was an amusing thought.
One of the great squid's tentacles shot up out of the water for a moment, causing Dane to jolt in surprise. He smiled slightly as the appendage was retracted back into the water. Perhaps he could draw the image later. He would've liked to do it now, as it was the perfect setting, but his sketch book was packed in his trunk and he doubted a summoning charm would be able to retrieve it.

Kiara was wandering around the grounds clutching a Charms book in her hands thinking about how much Hogwarts had changed since the previous year. She felt saddened by the changes in the staffing and the students. A lot of deception and changes had hardened the place. It was as if Hogwarts was suffering. She looked around her before heading down to the lake.
She'd had to lie about her own family. Her friend had taught her her family tree so she could pretend to be half blood. It had worked luckily but then Kiara had had to be extra careful. She was frightened and considering this was her owl year she was not in a good time to be frightened.
She walked down towards the lake and spotted one of the Professors. She approached him carefully and went to find a spot near the lake and quite close. She sat down and folded her knees and rested her book on it and opened it. She began to read.

The sounds of someone moving around behind him caused Dane to whip around. He half expected it to be Bellatrix or someone sneaking up behind him to hex him into the water. He didn't doubt that one of them would do that, but he was sure that if they didn't want him knowing he was there, he wouldn't have heard them. He turned back to the lake slowly and pushed his glasses further up his nose.
"Hello," he greeted, glancing to the girl as if in passing. He had seen her before, but he wasn't entirely sure if he knew her name or not. He began wracking his brain, trying to figure out what she was called. Had her name been said in front of him? He didn't think so, and he didn't want to embarass himself by calling her another name, so he kept quiet.
Shortly after he had decided to not keep quiet anymore, he began humming. It was a Beatles song, and a rather upbeat one at that. The girl had looked a bit sad, but that wasn't why he hummed it. He quite liked it, was all.

"Hello" Kiara said in a low voice. She wasn't in the mood for cheery greetings. Not when there was every chance she could be hunted down and attacked any minute now. And during her Owls too. Could her luck get any worse? Probably not.
She looked out over the lake and thought about everthing she had seen in the past few years. She had watched Harry Potter for a distance and she knew that he would do well wherever he was. She didn't blame him for coming back. She wouldn't have if she'd had any choice.
She felt sorry for her parents out there. She feared for their safety and she knew she would have to face the fact that it was only a matter of time before Voldemort found them. The thought of being orphaned was horrible. She tried not to think about it.
