Name: Dane Carnahan
Age: Twenty-four
Blood: Half-blood
Wand: Alder, 12", ashwinder ash core
Pet: None.
Alliance: Order Supporter
Job Hogwarts teacher, Dueling
Personality: Although he is the youngest Carnahan, he is more level-headed and practical than his older brother... most of the time. After all, it is impossible to live with someone like Garrett and not have their personality rub off on you. When he isn't the voice of reason, Dane'll jump right into the midst of things, albeit a bit hesitantly. Of course, he'd still voice his concerns about whatever stunt was being pulled until told to shut his gob, and even then he would grumble about something or other. He doesn't try to pick apart every trouble making scheme and list the pros and cons, his brain naturally does it. You can only imagine how annoying it gets.
When around people he doesn't know, Dane can be shy, to say the least. Actually, he becomes a twitchy, nervous, stuttering wreck. It's unknown exactly why he does this, but when asked, he'll just say that people make him uncomfortable. He doesn't really know why he took up teaching, dueling no less. He's more a lover, not a fighter, but dueling was the only teaching position he was remotely good at besides herbology, and man-eating plants just isn't his bag.
Dane isn't that much of a social person. Rather than going to parties, he'd much prefer reading a book or having his teeth pulled. He's very nice once he gets past his awkward first impressions phase (which can last for a few months, actually). Though he doesn't mean to be so violent about it, he has this thing about people touching him; to put it simply, if you touch him, you're going down. It's more of a reflex than anything. He tries to catch himself before he can land the blow, but most of the time it happens so fast that the only thing he can do is apologize profusely after wards.
Likes: -- Garrett -- muggle clothing -- muggle music (80's era, specifically) -- reading -- researching -- coming up with lesson plans for his classes
Dislikes: -- Garrett's recklessness -- physical contact -- olives -- pompous purebloods -- spiders -- the color brown
Description: Dane is nearsighted. Very nearsighted. Anything more than a foot away from his face is too blurry to see properly. He has glasses to correct the sight problem, of course, and they make him look nerdy. Actually, Dane pretty much is a nerd. Even the casual way he ruffles up his hair contributes to the nerd look. Like a geek trying to look cool, someone once said. His goatee isn't really to help his 'cool factor', it's more a product of laziness. You'd think that he'd just finish shaving instead of leaving his chin full of stubbles, but he's firmly decided that he likes how it looks, and now refuses to get rid of it.
In terms of clothes, Dane blends in more with the muggle crowd than some wizards. He dresses very casual: a t-shirt, a light jacket, jeans, and a worn out pair of black (now faded) Converse All Stars. On warmer days, he sheds the jacket and when it gets chillier, he dons thicker layers. He doesn't like to wear things that draws attention, though; he doesn't like to make a scene, just get from point A to point B.
History: Dane was born on March 30th, the second son to a muggle mother and wizard father. From a young age, his brother began dragging him around to go get the mail from the mailbox down the road, or to help him climb onto the counters. As it was obvious that he was more responsible than his brother, always thinking things out and voicing his objections, his parents actually gave him the task of watching after Garrett. Needless to say, it didn't stop Dane from being tackled into ponds.
Dane was what you could call a 'late bloomer'. He didn't start showing any magical traits until a few years before his eleventh birthday. He was already psyched to go to Hogwarts, having read and reread his brother's letters a few times each. The giant castle was like a dream come true to him. He had seen pictures in books that his parents had, but actually going to the castle and seeing it for real was an entirely different thing. The joy of being sorted into the same house as his brother was just the icing on the pumpkin pasty.
Throughout the seven years he was in school, he became one of the best students in his year, passing tests with flying colors. When he graduated, before he had time to even thing about getting a job, he was whisked away to go on an insane trip around the world to make sure his brother wasn't killed. Aside from a few wounds bad enough to cause scarring, the two returned to England relatively unscathed. The two took up residence in Diagon Alley, staying in adjoining rooms at the Leaky Cauldron. Garrett returned to working at the Magical Menagerie, and Dane took up sorting books at Flourish and Blott's.
Role Play Example: (( From Urban Plague. )) It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.
Ironic, really, how REM's old 80's hit was the only song that could come to Dane's mind. To be honest, he didn't feel fine at all. Granted, he loved a good horror movie, but the thought of the undead coming back to 'life', to put it lightly, scared the crap out of him. It made him jumpy, nervous, and just plain frightened. Even though he had lived in one of the worse parts of New York City, he had never had to be on alert twenty-four seven. He didn't really want to start now, either.
Being wrapped up in his thoughts, Dane wasn't aware of the car roaring down the road behind him until a blood-curdling screech sliced through the eerie silence. On reflex, he whipped around, the hockey stick raised above his head, ready to fight for his life whether he wanted to or not. What he wasn't expecting, however, was to see a car somersaulting down the road.
Dane watched with a sort of morbid fascination as the car came to a stop on its roof. A small voice in the back of his mind urged him to rush over and see if the driver was alright, but his muscles refused to obey the messages his brain was sending out, forcing him to stand with the stick above his head, an expression of surprise and horror on his face.
Other: Uh, nope.
